400 Degreez is Juvenile's third studio album and was released in 1998 on Cash Money Records. By the end of 1999, the album had already been certified 4x Platinum, peaked at the #2 spot on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart, and had two singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In 2020, Rolling Stone added 400 Degreez to their list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Among the flurry of Cash Money releases during the late '90s, certainly stands out, and not just as 's shining moment but also as the album that forced everyone to suddenly take this Dirty South collective very seriously. Before, Cash Money had been operating relatively well, securing a distribution deal with Universal and broadening its audience with every successive release. But nothing prepared anyone for the success of, particularly its two anthemic singles, the tongue-twisting 'Ha' and the booty-calling 'Back That Azz Up.' These two songs alone make noteworthy. They're absolutely two of the best songs to come out of the late-'90s Dirty South boom. Moreover, two remixes of 'Ha' come late on the album, one with, the other with. These four highlights - 'Ha,' 'Back That Azz Up,' and the 'Ha' remixes - break up the album, somewhat concealing the filler.

And, yes, there is filler here, as with any Cash Money album, but even it is worthwhile, either because of 's carefully structured rhyming or producer 's seemingly bottomless well of hot beats. Among the singles and the filler here, there are also a few great album tracks as well. In particular, 'Flossin Season' features some incredibly brash boasts from, and 'Rich Niggaz' features an absolutely frantic beat that ricochets on for five breathtaking minutes.
All of this, along with perfect timing, dropping just as the Dirty South broke into the mainstream, made a phenomenal release for Cash Money, quite arguably the label's crowning achievement. This album, of course, made a superstar and, in turn, towered over him for years as the achievement by which he would always be measured.

When Juvenile left the label, Wayne - or 'Birdman Jr.' as he was calling himself - showed his allegiance to his CEO by releasing an album with a title much hotter than Juvie's breakthrough effort. While Fresh was primarily responsible for launching his career, Wayne was now much closer to Fresh's fellow Big Tymer and Cash Money CEO Birdman. His second album, Lights Out (2000), failed to match the success of its predecessor but it did go gold, and with an appearance on the Big Tymers' hit single '#1 Stunna,' his audience was certainly growing. It went double platinum but the rapper was still unknown to Middle America, since his hardcore rhymes and the rough Cash Money sound had not yet crossed over. Wayne would launch his solo career a year later with the album Tha Block Is Hot, featuring the hit single title track. In 1998, Lil Wayne would appear on Juvenile's hit single 'Back That Thing Up,' or 'Back That Azz Up' as it appeared on Juvie's album 400 Degreez. Mainstream distribution would help that year's Hot Boys album Guerrilla Warfare to reach the number one spot on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Two years later, Cash Money would sign a distribution deal with the major label Universal.
